The Mayo Clinic Tobacco Treatment Specialist Certification Trainin g is an accredited program that consists of both online learning and a thre e-day livestream training focusing on the skills needed to effectively trea t tobacco dependence. This course is delivered through a blended learning f ormat in which instruction is completed first online through the Brightspac e platform as a self-paced training, followed by a interactive 3-day livest ream training. This course is adapted for individual learning styles, while allowing for a flexible schedule during the online component. The ten-modu le online training is available via Brightspace and may be completed at you r own pace. Plan to spend approximately ten hours to complete all ten modul es. The online learning must be completed prior to participating in the liv estream training. The livestream training is a web-based interactive learni ng experience. Thus no travel is involved. During the 3-day training, Mayo Clinic staff will teach the course using virtual technology. You should exp ect to spend those days actively engaged in the course. If time is missed i t could affect your eligibility to pass the course. Participation is requir ed during the live training and instructors may call on participants for th eir input. You will need a working camera and microphone to properly partic ipate and receive full attendance. Passing an exam and successfully complet ing both the online and livestream training components is required for Mayo Clinic Certification, and to be eligible to sit for the National Certifica tion exam. Because many past participants stated how much they value the Ma yo Certification, we will continue to offer Mayo certification with our tra ining as well as re-certification. Faculty will include Mayo Clinic Nicotin e Dependence Center physicians, Master's degree counselors, and education s taff. A partial list of topics includes: neuropharmacology of nicotine, opt imization of pharmacologic management, conducting a basic counseling sessio n, motivational interviewing and other counseling approaches, and applicati on of treatment of tobacco dependence to people with co-morbid conditions. This training program is designed for professionals already providing tobac co dependence treatment and for those with a strong interest in entering th e field. Registration is limited in order to facilitate learning and maximi ze interaction with the experienced faculty. There is a clear demand for pr ofessionals in the field to have recognition of expertise in treating tobac co use and dependence. The Nicotine Dependence Center (NDC) has worked clos ely with the Association for the Treatment of Tobacco Use and Dependence (A TTUD) and others to establish standards for core competencies, training, an d certification of tobacco treatment providers. The Nicotine Dependence Cen ter Tobacco Treatment Specialist Certification Program has been accredited by the Council for Tobacco Treatment Training Programs since 2010. p>
